House Votes Itself A Raise
While media attention was focused on the immigration bill in the Senate, Paris Hilton and the fate of Scooter Libby, the House of Representatives quietly gave themselves a raise. And it is no wonder they were quiet as church mice, given their 14% approval rating. This really isn’t a surprise. The real story here is just who are these people doing the approving, where are the pollsters finding them?
Naturally this was slipped through on July 3rd when the entire news cycle was devoted to pitting right against left on the issue of Scooters commuted sentence. If they had bothered to report this $4,400 raise, we could have united with a common cause, left and right, holding hands and singing with one voice. Imagine.

This preposterous pork would certainly burn well to ignite a nation’s tender sensibilities, especially with the purse-strings tightening around everyone’s pulse given record defecits. Let’s keep this story alive - how the people elected to curb the “war economy” are hiding under its bulk, leeching off of it.
July 10th, 2007 at 6:59 pmAs ineffectual and chicken-hearted as the Congress is…on both sides of the aisle…I am completely unsurprised that they could muster the togetherness to give themselves a hefty raise. It must be nice to be part of an organization where you can give yourselves raises, exempt yourselves from laws that apply to the little people (RIP Leona), and often make tidy fortunes while doing “public service”…what a sweet gig :-)
