UPDATE Part IV: (I post this first to give Mr. Kantor the benefit of the doubt. Updates 1-3 are below the original post)

I just read Kantor’s defense and he certainly seems adament about never having used /that/ word.

Then again, so did Mark Ferman. Still.. I would like to believe him. Maybe the second slur was doctored rather than enhanced. When I crank the volume I hear it but I won’t rule out the possibility that I am hearing it because I am predisposed to after watching the first video.

The first slur “Those people are shit” seems, to my hearing, maybe saying “Those people are shit(or shitting)..(unintelligible) Whitehouse.” This would tend to put the second slur out of context and so I am left wondering, Did he, or Didn’t he.

My thinking on this now is that someone with the equipment needs to enhance the soundtrack so this man is…

Hillary Busted Using Push Poll

You can hear the evidence and read the story here, here and here.

In order to ensure adequate righteous outrage at this tactic, I provide to you the following definition from Wikipedia. Please pay particular attention to the highlighted keywords.

A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll. In a push poll, large numbers of respondents are contacted, and little or no effort is made to collect and analyze response data. Instead, the push poll is a form of telemarketing-based propaganda and rumor mongering, masquerading as a poll. Push polls are usually the “innuendo” manifestation of knowledge gleaned from opposition research on an opponent. generally viewed as a form of negative campaigning. Push polling has been condemned by the American Association of Political Consultants, and is illegal in New Hampshire.

Bloody JackAss

John Kerry appeared on C-Span and made an ass out of himself this morning. While taking calls a woman says she voted for him and is thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to him then tells him she remembers the horrible killing in Vietnam after we pulled out and she remembers the boat people. He almost interrupts her but she continues to say that she is concerned about Iraq. That she’d like to see us out of there but she doesn’t want to leave our allies. She asks if there is any way to force a new election that Sunnis could participate in and says she doesn’t think Maliki is on our side. I suspect this lady has been reading Matt’s blog.

Kerry tells her that is an astute observation about Maliki and then switches gears. He says that there was no bloodbath after we left Vietnam, and goes on…

House Votes Itself A Raise

While media attention was focused on the immigration bill in the Senate, Paris Hilton and the fate of Scooter Libby, the House of Representatives quietly gave themselves a raise. And it is no wonder they were quiet as church mice, given their 14% approval rating. This really isn’t a surprise. The real story here is just who are these people doing the approving, where are the pollsters finding them?

Naturally this was slipped through on July 3rd when the entire news cycle was devoted to pitting right against left on the issue of Scooters commuted sentence. If they had bothered to report this $4,400 raise, we could have united with a common cause, left and right, holding hands and singing with one voice. Imagine.

Bloody Lambs

Scooter Libby, bloodied sacrificial lambMy political sparring partner, Matthew Funk, of Driving Too Fast Down The Middle of The Road, has inspired me to comment on Bush’s commute of Scooter’s prison sentence.

Matt says, in part..

“You don’t sacrifice the lamb. You just stab it a little.

Who is appeased in that equation? Not the deity waiting for the sacrifice. Not the lamb’s owner. For sure not the damn lamb.”

He says plenty more too, and it’s a worthy read, but that summed up how I feel about it. If you are going to spare the lamb, spare the damn lamb. Bush comes off like he is trying to appease his critics with a half-assed half-measure. I would rather see him go whole hog, or whole lamb as the case may be.
